Grammy Marilyn’s Cookbook

2021
OverviewA personal cookbook preserving my grandmother Marilyn's recipes through her handwritten notes and family photographs. The design honors her culinary legacy, weaving together memories from her Norwegian roots in Minnesota and her life as a single mother in 1970s Los Angeles.
ProcessThis cookbook is a tribute to my grandmother, who passed away when I was eight years old. Her recipes carry memories of weekend visits, from peanut butter toast strips at her LA kitchen counter to making sorbet together at her Ventura beach house during her chemotherapy treatments.

Working with handwritten notes and memorabilia preserved by my aunt, I designed a cookbook that keeps my grandmother’s culinary legacy alive. The recipes reveal her Norwegian heritage from Spring Grove, Minnesota, alongside influences from raising a family in 1970s Los Angeles. Through thoughtful layout and typography, I created a document that feels both deeply personal and designed to last.
